 New York, NY ˆ The first New York restaurant designed by Karim Rashid, NOOCH, located at 143, 8th Avenue in New York City will open mid-August 2004. NOOCH will feature a pan-Asian inspired menu.
 
Karim‚s innovative design features a bar area with glass walls extending from floor to ceiling creating a hip and vigorous space. The interior‚s high-energy, dynamic atmosphere will be complemented by the digital artwork of Megan Lang and will feature music co-curated by Karim and Activaire.

    Karim Rashid, considered a pioneer in the American design industry, has been designing products, packaging, furniture and interiors since 1984. His work has been featured in exhibitions and included in prominent museum collections worldwide. A former Associate Professor of Design at the University of Arts in Philadelphia, Karim has designed many famous products for such clients as Issey Miyake, Prada, Davidoff, Bozart, Umbra and Nambe. Karim is also known for his design for Morimoto, the Philadelphia restaurant operated by famed Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto and Philadelphia restauranteur Stephen Starr.

    NOOCH is owned and operated by Janice Ong, the owner of Tangerine Restaurant and Bar in the West Village. NOOCH, which has four other locations in Singapore (one also designed by Karim) will be the first of its kind in the US. Karim‚s designs and music combined with the contemporary atmosphere promises to make this fusion bar a favored downtown New York destination.
