Verner Panton - Gate 2

The VP Gate rugs consist of squares, triangles and circles in black, beige, red and petrol. The colors are each counterbalanced by a lighter shade of themselves, and the black by the beige. The straight edges of the polygons deceive the eye, suggesting lines where there are no lines at all. Thus, this carpet also appears to be divided by large squares. Even the dots seem to float in squares. A graphic trick from the great designer's bag of tricks that is as simple as it is ingenious. The VP Gate 1 and VP Gate 2 differ only in the redistribution of the light and dark color weights and the different arrangement of the shapes. Amazing how similar and yet absolutely different both carpets appear through these resourceful methods.
