Sonnhild Kestler

Zurich-based artist Sonnhild Kestler develops expressive rugs that touch us individually with their uniqueness.

"With my designs, I want to touch people, stimulate their imagination and awaken emotions." It is important to Sonnhild Kestler to tell new stories with her work, but also to reactivate what has already been experienced by the viewer.

Following joint projects with Vitra and with youth facilities, Sonnhild Kestler is launching a joint collection with Designer Carpets Drechsle in 2024.

"Nowadays, there are billions of things that you look at and immediately forget about. For me, it is important that the objects I design are noticed, that they touch you and become part of your daily life."

BELA & ELIS

2024

BELA & ELIS are an ideal eye-catcher in the living room, lie at your feet in the bedroom, welcome guests in the hallway and enrich everyday life with their sheer presence. The two figures can be playfully combined, enliven the room as a pair head to head or individually and unfold their effect in any location.

"The Tibetan way of weaving carpets requires a very traditional and careful production technique. We combine this centuries-old expertise with modern know-how and exclusive, high-quality materials."

Stefan Drechsle, owner of Designercarpets Drechsle

Sonnhild Kestler first put BELA & ELIS together in a kind of paper collage in her studio in Zurich. Once the shapes and colors were harmonious, the paper and wool colors were perfectly matched.

ELIS and BELA are hand-knotted from Tibetan wool, with approx. 160,000 knots per square meter.

Suitable for living areas as well as high-traffic areas.
