product description
In 1989, Verner Panton received a visit from a young colleague from London in Basel. British designer Tom Dixon, who had just been appointed head of design at the furnishing company Habitat, had travelled to Switzerland primarily to explore the possibilities of collaboration between Panton and his new employer. Two projects were quickly agreed upon: a new edition of the Peacock Chair, which was part of the Plus Linje collection, and the production of a round wool carpet. For the latter (Rays Carpet), Panton used an existing design that had not been put into production. The pattern of the hand-woven carpet, which was available in two colours (ivory/black and violet/light and dark blue), shows a central circle from which numerous lines run outwards. Towards the outer edge of the carpet, the number of radial lines doubles, forming a kind of ring-shaped frame.
