The Zurich artist Sonnhild Kestler develops expressive carpets that touch us individually with their uniqueness.

“With my designs I want to touch people, stimulate their imagination and awaken emotions.” It is important to Sonnhild Kestler to tell new stories with her work, but also to reactivate what the viewer has already experienced.

After joint projects with Vitra and with youth institutions, Sonnhild Kestler will launch a joint collection with Designercarpets Drechsle in 2024.

The carpets in the collection are hand-knotted from 100% Himalayan wool.

The wool is characterized by its natural durability. It is naturally hard-wearing and easy to care for. The rugs in this collection are suitable for both private and public spaces.

Designercarpets is a member of the fair-trade label STEP. In addition to promoting social standards, we are also committed to the further development of sustainable production. All carpets in the Sonnhild Kestler collection are STEP-certified.

BELA & ELIS

2024

BELA & ELIS sind ein idealer Blickfang im Wohnzimmer, liegen im Schlafzimmer gerne zu Füßen, begrüßen Gäste im Flur und bereichern durch ihre pure Präsenz das tägliche Zusammenleben. Die beiden Figuren lassen sich spielerisch kombinieren, beleben als Paar Kopf an Kopf oder auch einzeln den Raum und entfalten je nach Ort ihre individuelle Wirkung.

Zur Medienmitteilung

Sonnhild Kestler setzte BELA & ELIS zunächst in einer Art Papiercollage in Ihrem Atelier in Zürich zusammen. Nachdem die Form- und Farbstimmung harmonisch war, wurden Papier- und Wollfarben perfekt aufeinander abgeglichen.

ELIS und BELA werden aus tibetischer Wolle handgeknüpft, mit ca. 160'000 Knoten pro Quadratmeter.
