Lörrach: Making carpet craftsmanship understandable

A piece of Tibetan origin is dominated by a green-yellow scaled dragon with a golden head, looking at a blue-red feathered phoenix. Tibetan carpets contain "a lot of symbolism," explains Stefan Drechsle in the new museum corner of his carpet shop Designercarpets Drechsle. The combination of dragon and phoenix on the approximately 125-year-old carpet symbolizes inspiration, luck and success.

The rare pieces from the 19th century come from a private collection and have already been exhibited in the Museum of Applied Arts in Frankfurt. The museum area can be visited during the showroom's opening hours. 

"The same materials and traditional knotting techniques are used in modern carpets. With the museum we want to show and convey a piece of the history of carpet weaving"
