Designer Carpets in the "Hali Cover"

Designer Carpets in der "Hali Cover"
01.03.2017

Designercarpets was the first carpet brand to be granted permission to exhibit at IMM Cologne. At the fair in 2000, the company showed its first carpets by Verner Panton (1926-1998), produced in close collaboration with Marianne Panton, Panton Design Basel.

Since 1999, Designercarpets has had the exclusive rights to produce and distribute carpets worldwide by the Danish designer, who is known for his prominent textile designs, pop interiors and furniture, such as the first stackable Panton chair - an object that is attributed cult status in the design world and has now been produced by Vitra over 300,000 times.

The daring patterns of the four latest Panton carpets, developed by Designercarpets managing director and designer Stefan Drechsle, were taken from Verner Panton's designs from the 1960s.

Astoria was presented in two colourways and comes from the Op-Art inspired Geometri design for the Astoria Hotel and Restaurant in Trondheim, Norway. There, four variations of the pattern could be seen on carpets and other textiles spread across the floors, walls and ceilings, creating a groovy effect. Gate 1 & 2 came from a 1966 design that adorned the large enamel and metal gates of the Panton family home, near Basel.

The designs on the new carpets, hand-knotted in Kathmandu, are still in fashion fifty years after their creation. They will be displayed in VitraHaus - the flagship store of Designercarpets' neighbouring company and long-term production partner of Verner Panton.
